Abstract

Leadership is a great quality and every utmost organizational success besides other factors owes its credit to the leader who led it to glory. Every human endeavour needs a unifying and driving force for success and that ultimately traced to good leadership. The Islamic Leadership principles practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (Ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wasallam) and subsequently by his Caliphs and pious followers which if practiced have provided success principles equally useful both for Muslims as well as non-Muslims. This analytical study finds out number of points in the light of Sīrah in this regard. A leader must be kind, compassionate, and forgiving towards those whom he leads. He must also consult them but once a decision has been made, then determination and courage should be the quality of a leader. On the global scene there is a need for good leaders too as today the world is mired by international conflicts and wars. There is lack of power functioning seeking guidance from the “Sīrah’ which required to be restored. The Islamic Leadership Model and the principles associated with it offering an alternative which can open the door of excellence and achievement. These principles are gleaned from the Qur’ān the words of the Mighty Wise, the practice and Sīrah of Prophet Muhammad, the character and deeds of the Caliphs and other great Muslim leaders who reached the zenith of excellence.
