Veils of Nature vis-à-vis Qur’anic Imagery of Fog and Mist: A Multilingual Analysis

Abstract

This research study presents an in-depth examination of the linguistic, scientific and interpretive aspects of the imagery of Fog and Mist in the Holy Quran. At the beginning of the research, the etymology (derivative analysis), lexical and linguistic meanings and Arabic meaning of both terms have been clarified to know in which spiritual dimensions the Quran has used these phenomena of nature. All the verses of the Holy Quran in which references to Fog or Mist are found have been studied in detail. The imagery presented in these verses shows that Fog and Mist are not only natural phenomena but also come up as metaphors for human insight, spiritual veils and divine warning. The existence, formation, and ecological role of fog and mist are also described from a scientific perspective, which reveals the fact that the description of natural phenomena in the Quran is consistent with modern scientific principles. Consequently, this study highlights that the imagery of fog and mist in the Quran is not simply a seasonal or natural phenomenon, but a symbol of spiritual perception, divine power, and intellectual awakening. This study invites the reader to try to understand the hidden meaning in the veils of nature and recognize the wisdom of the true Creator in every manifestation of the universe.
