Abstract

This study examines the role of the Association of Sufi Scholars in Lebanon as a model of civil society engagement rooted in Sufi values and Islamic ethics. It explores how the association translates spiritual principles such as compassion, brotherhood, generosity, sincerity, self-accountability, and service to humanity into practical initiatives that support individuals and communities in need. Attention is given to its efforts to strengthen social solidarity, assist vulnerable groups, bridge social and communal divisions, and respond to crises through humanitarian and welfare-oriented activities. The study argues that Sufism, when expressed through responsible social engagement, transforms spiritual purification into collective responsibility and practical service. The association demonstrates how religiously inspired civil society organizations can contribute to healing social wounds, reducing tensions, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting peaceful coexistence. Using a qualitative and analytical approach, the research examines the association’s activities and underlying values to highlight their relevance to contemporary societies facing fragmentation, conflict, and declining social trust. The study concludes that combining spiritual purification, individual moral development, institutional transparency, and humanitarian action can provide a sustainable framework for strengthening social cohesion and healing the wounds of society.
