Abstract

This study explores the contemporary dimensions of interfaith harmony in Muslim societies through the lens of the prophetic biography (Sīrah) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Despite the geographic and social proximity of diverse religious communities, a lack of mutual understanding and tolerance continues to threaten societal cohesion and global peace. The article argues that the Prophetic model offers a comprehensive and timeless framework for fostering peaceful coexistence and interreligious dialogue. Drawing upon historical instances—such as the Constitution of Madinah, the Treaty of Najran, and other Sīrah-based examples—the study highlights the Prophet’s principles of mutual respect, religious freedom, non-coercion in faith, and equitable treatment of non-Muslim minorities. The research examines how these principles can be actualized in the contemporary context to counter extremism and promote a welfare-oriented society. Furthermore, the article proposes that fostering shared moral values and common human dignity through dialogue and social integration is essential for maintaining peace and justice in Muslim-majority societies. It concludes by offering policy-level recommendations for scholars, media professionals, and religious leaders to enhance interfaith understanding in accordance with Islamic ethical teachings.
