Abstract

This study presents an analytical examination of the concept of neutrality in inter-state relations in the light of the Sīrah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It explores how the Prophet’s diplomatic conduct, treaties, and interactions with diverse political entities reflected a principled form of neutrality grounded in justice, peaceful coexistence, and moral integrity. The research analyzes historical episodes such as the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, relations with Abyssinia, and engagements with non-Muslim tribes, identifying the ethical and strategic dimensions of neutrality within the Prophetic model. By employing an analytical methodology, the study situates the Prophetic approach within contemporary international relations theory, emphasizing its relevance to modern diplomatic ethics. The findings highlight that neutrality in Islamic political thought is neither passive nor indifferent but a constructive instrument for peace, balance, and fairness among states. The study recommends that contemporary Muslim states adopt the Prophetic model of principled neutrality to promote global peace and ethical diplomacy.
