Abstract

Sufism, as a spiritual and ethical discipline, represents the ultimate stage after acquiring and applying the necessary knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence. It aligns with the concept of "Ihsan" and marks the pinnacle of spiritual development. Sufism is not limited to individual self-purification or moral reform but extends its influence to society as a whole. It integrates ethical principles into a framework that fosters unity, harmony, and cohesion within the community. In contemporary times, however, Sufism has faced challenges due to misrepresentation by individuals who outwardly claim adherence to it while diverging significantly from its core principles. These deviations, including doctrinal errors such as the notions of divine immanence (hulul) and union (ittihad), have led to misconceptions and, in some cases, outright rejection of Sufism. This phenomenon highlights the impact of misguided practices on the broader perception of Sufism as a spiritual path۔This research aims to explore how authentic Sufism contributes to the development of a cohesive and ethical society. It also examines the effects of doctrinal and behavioral deviations by certain adherents on public perceptions of Sufism. The ultimate objective is to reaffirm the authentic essence of Sufism as a means of individual and societal reform, addressing contemporary challenges through inductive, inferential, and analytical methodologies.
